The inspection of x-ray facilities is conducted at various time intervals to assure that radiation safety issues are being properly addressed.
The inspection is an unannounced visit during regular work hours, as prescribed by the Attorney General. Every effort is made not to interfere with normal business operations. In most cases, the x-ray machine time needed is about 10 to 15 minutes for the unit.
The inspector(s) will introduce themselves and present proper identification. You will be asked to read and sign a notice of audit and make a copy for your file. The inspector will place a copy of this form that they signed into your file.
After the x-ray equipment has been inspected, a closeout will take place where the inspector will ask certain questions and report on their findings. This usually takes about 5 to 10 minutes and is done with the person in charge at the time of inspection. Any violations are reviewed with suggestions given on how to correct the problem.
Within 30 business days from the date of the inspection, you will receive a letter, which lists the findings. If you are in compliance (or after you correct the identified issues), you will receive an inspection certificate, signed by the inspector and Agency Management.
